Question:
Horse owners: What could be invented that would make your life as a horse owner a whole bunch easier?

I have a project to invent something that's due tomorrow -- so I need quick answers. We were given the project weeks ago, and I had my invention pretty solid and everything until I saw 'my' invention pop up on TV. So everything backfired! Now I'm in desperate need for your help.

I love horses but don't own one, so I wouldn't experience the daily hardships of caring for an equine. Is there anything that annoys you to no end, or some job that is so incredibly hard you can't stand it anymore? Maybe there's an invention you've thought of over and over, something simple that could fix that problem? Well I need your ideas quick! Promise -- I' m not looking for any patent or something crazy, I just need something that sounds simple that I could make a model of before the day's over. Please help me!

-- p.s. If it helps to start you off at all, I hate sweeping fur out of the barn aisle after I brush a horse when he's been shedding his winter coat. I'd want a brush that could both dig the dirt out and vacuum up fur at the same time, without making to much noise or with any wires in the wall.

I want something to do with the poo and shavings that I muck. I actually like to muck, but I hate trying to find someone to take the poo. Wood shavings make it not the greatest for fertilizer, and I have tapped out all the local nurseries.

I think there should be some way to burn for heat (needs to be compressed into logs), compress into plant pots, or if there were some way to compress it into a particle board, fire starters, fence boards(!!!that would be great if it were strong enough??)

There has to be something that can be done with what is essentially grass clippings and wood shavings/sawdust.

Short of robots? Self cleaning stalls. Self feeding buckets, self cleaning barns, self filling hay nets, automatic tack cleaner, for the love of god- an automatic shealth cleaner!!! (Just had to clean my geldings--bleh.I wouldn't advise making this though!)

Hmm.. I know that there are already things to clean water troughs and lovely automatic waters. And there's automatic fly sprayers....

How about a circular tack room that rotated and each horses specific tack came when you pressed a number?

Oh- here are some 'dreaming ideas': something that would make trimming your horses feet easy and super quick. Like an adjustable box that trimmed. Or a healing solution/gel filled with super solution to make your horse heal in days. An effective equine 'band-aid' type thing that would stick anywhere without hurting the horse.

Something that took bots off of horses in one swipe. An inflatable shelter for camping or emergencies.

That's all I can think of off the top of my head, sorry.

I agree with the person who suggested the hose. I used to live in MN so that would have been great. Or something to break the ice automatically in your trough. There are water heaters that help though.

If you invented an automatic braider for shows, I'd be in heaven! I can't braid to save my life, so if there was some mechanism that could do neat, tight braids in not much time... let's just say it would save me a lot of frustration!

I also like the brush/vacuum idea! Or a brush that mechanically brushed so your arm wouldn't fall off on those days where the horse is caked in mud?

stables on wheels so they always have a somewhere to protect them rather than a trailer. something easier to clean their shoes like all you had to do was run the thing across the shoe and it be all good and clean. homemade feed with the economy these days anything you can make instead of buy is way better. and something that could put their socks on for you some horses like one of mine isn't to happy with that and those feeder things like they have for dogs were there is food in the bowl then some more comes down when its getting empty and one for water two. that would be awesome.i hope this helps good luck on getting a horse!!!

hmm can I have two?

1. Something that can keep grey horses permanently grey! Haaa maybe like a magical shampoo which prevents stains from happening :P

2. A machine which will muck out for me and pop the feeds in in the morning so I don't have to get up early before school to do the feeds and turn out the horses ;)

Definently something to bring horses in and out of the fields! With 16 horses at the barn where I work, I make a TON of trips back and forth to bring them in and out. I always go two at a time but there are the odd groups of three and that basically doubles your trips back and forth.

A retractable lunge line, like what they have for the dog leashes. Or some kind of lead/rope that you can tie your horse to that moves with them without them getting tangled. Or some kind of hot walker that works as a lunge line so you can practice cantering in circles and get it right every time, etc. That could be used for vaulting or any multitude of disciplines.

some kind of grooming device that traps the hair as it comes off the horse so that it's not flying in my face all the time and ends up in my teeth and eyes.

something that's got 'static cling" to catch the hair then be cleaned off easily.

like a static-y brush or something....?

I wish there was a way I could remotely discipline my horse for nibbling on something he shouldn't, like cross ties. He bites them while I'm far away (e.g. brushing his tail) and he knows it'll take me a minute to walk over to his front and swat his nose. By then he stops because he sees me coming and knows better.

Automatic saddle carrier and saddler for my million pound rope saddle haha

something that mucks stalls and waters for you!(: or maybe a walker that walks them out to the feild for you if its far away! but i like your idea too!. A model is a long track to the feild and you tie a breakaway lead rope to it that walks them out or can get them from the feild! hope this helps!

an automatic haynet filler.

the bale of hay could be inside it and you put a haynet somewhere and it automaticall fills it for you.

just read that someone put a poo sweeper. they kind of already have these. seen some at a show. http://www.aberdeenagriculturalservices.co.uk/grass_paddock_maintenance.html

A hose that didn't freeze in the winter and/or a tank heater that wouldn't break (over heat or no heat enough).

But mostly the hose!
