Question:
Most embarrassing moment(s).............?
2009-12-22 09:32:48 UTC
I always love to hear everyone's MOST embarrassing moments! I guess it's only fair if I share mine. So my most embarrassing moment would have to be when I was riding my small paint pony at the Santa Barbara National Horse Show. I was showing in a low pony jumper class and it had rained. There was one huge mud puddle in the ring. What else would my devilish little pony do but stop and dump me right into that one big puddle? I remember taking my walk of shame back to the in-gate completely covered in mud.

So share yours! Doesn't have to be at a show or anything. Just what is the most embarrassing (horse-realted) thing that has happened to you?

Oh man.. ahah. I have so many!

1) I was competing in an AQHA WP class, and everything was going perfect. We were on the last lope, and I was in the corner. all of a sudden, my cinch snapped and I go tumbling off. the judge didn't notice, so I just kinda got up, handed my saddle (which was on top of me) to my mom, and walked to the center of the arena... all the people watching were cracking up. but hey, I still placed 4th!

2) When I was like 9, I had just started riding western (I rode english before that) and my first western class was as follows: it was a sweepstakes class, so anyone could enter. I was against adults and trainers who had been doing this forever... and when the class was over, they announced me as first place. My trainers and friends and stuff freaked out, and I was shocked. Then... they said "Oh, i'm sorry. Back 142, we made a mistake. The first place award goes to Back 742. Sorry for the confusion." So embarrassing. Turns out I got 5th or something... ouch.

3) Oh, and the time I had a major asthma attack in the middle of a HUS class. I was lucky it wasn't an equitation class, because I was heaving and wheezing so hard you could see it from the other arena! when they had us change directions I had to get my inhaler from the rail from my mom super quickly.. hahah when i took the puffs everyone looked at me like I was a freak.

I have so many others... but I can't remember them all!

I think I was like nine or something and to fully understand you have to know that I was this tiny little 4'8 thing and the wheelbarrows were massive. To get up to the muck heap you had to run up this pretty steep slope with the muck truck parked at the top. So there I go taking a run up, get to the top, stop the wheelbarrow. Unfortunately I didn't stop along with it and landed in a pile of shavings and other unsavoury things >.<

And there was another time that's more funny than embarassing. At the end of pony camp we held a show and of course were responsible for getting our own ponies ready. Thing is noone had a watch and the only clock was an hour behind but we'd all forgotten that. We finally find the time and it's ten minutes before first calls for dressage. Everyone's running round like lunatics because most of us had barely finished skepping out, let alone started grooming. Turns out we had loads of time left but it was really funny to see everyone fighting over curry combs and plaiting bands :D

When I first moved to the barn my horse is at now--about two months ago--I had gone out to ride just like normal. I'd ridden him there a couple of days already and he was fine. My horse is a Western Pleasure gelding who is well-trained and generally pretty calm (or at that point he was--lately he's been extra fresh because of the cold weather and all the rain!). The trainer/barn owner was out in the arena teaching a lesson when I came up. This was the first time he or anyone else had been in the arena while I rode, so I asked if it was okay if I went in and rode during the lesson. He said it was fine, so in I went. I stopped my horse just inside the gate (the trainer/BO was standing probably fifteen feet away at this point) and was talking to the BO. I went to mount; as I did that, the dogs started barking and captured my horse's attention. He took a step forward and apparently I spooked him or accidentally spurred him or something--he threw a fit and started bucking. I had just gotten my seat in the saddle and didn't have one leg all the way down, let alone in the stirrup, so everytime he bucked I was spurring him unintentionally. He dumped me at the feet of the trainer/BO and then took off. Again, let me remind you that this is a fairly nice gelding who has never done this before, at a barn with a lot of nice show horses and horses in training, and I'm 22 and have ridden my entire life. Getting bucked off while mounting at the feet of my new barn owner (and a lesson kid) was not what I had in mind! Fortunately, he laughed. I ended up having a really good ride.

A few weeks ago, though, I went out to ride after several days of bad weather. My horse hadn't been ridden or turned out in awhile because of all the mud, so I knew he'd be really fresh. I didn't want to lunge him because the arena was still so muddy and I was afraid he'd slip and get hurt, since he tends to play on the lunge. There were several other people in the arena at the time. The trainer asked me if I really wasn't lunging that day, to which I said no, and told me not to fall on the wooden box by the gate (used to train pleasure driving horses)--then said, "Actually, I think I'll just stand in front of it so you can't fall on it!" My response was, "Gee, thanks for the vote of confidence!" (I was laughing) and he told me that it already almost happened once so he wasn't taking any chances. He was being funny, but it was still embarrassing.

There's a couple that come to mind

1. It was one of my first shows that I was in. I was using a mounting block to get on. But for some stupid reason, when I mounted on the horse, I managed to fall off the mounting block before I really got on the horse. I fell off in front of everyone in the warm up ring.

2. I trained months to do reining. At this time I wanted to be a reiner. I was at an open show, it was my turn to go into the arena. I walked the horse in. I did the pattern perfectly except for one thing. I did it facing the wrong way. The judge had a good laugh in as well as everyone else. I got disqualified from the class.

Probably the first time I competed in jumpers. It was when I was 12 or 13 and I had switched over from hunters. I had a clear round and then when I'm walking by the in-gate my trainer says "Do you know your jump off?" and I just had an ohh crap moment. So I'm sitting by the in-gate on my super hyper horse while my trainer is like "1,4,2,8,5,6" (I'm just making up random jump numbers) and I'm sitting their trying to remember the jump off really quick so I don't look like a total idiot. And of course this is at an A circuit show. But needless to say me and my horse pulled through with a clean round and placed well :]

My friend that a ride with has a very hyper, but stubborn little 6 year old horse that only she gets along with. She's a jumper too. We were at an A show and when she was showing, her horse refused and she took down a 3'9" oxer with her body. Every pole was on the ground with her on top of them, and Diego (her horse) just standing there looking at her. But that's not the bad part. It was the 6th jump and then the announcer just decides to say on the speaker "Clean up in aisle 6!" She was reallyy mad when he said that.

I used to ride at a stable that had extremely muddy fields, and my instructor told me to go catch the horse i would be riding that day and when i walked in to the field i noticed my boot was stuck and when i tried to pull it out my foot came right out of the boot and went in the mud and manure, then my other boot got stuck and the same thing happened so i was standing in the muddy field with both boots off and in mud knee high then i tried walking back while carrying my boots and i fell and landed right on the electric fence and that was painful AND embarrassing and practically everyone was standing there laughing at me and another girl had to go and get the horse and i was covered in mud and manure from head to toe and i still had to ride. it was not a good day lol but i laugh about it now and i now ride at a stable with clean fields.

haha, I do this regularly too. :) Once I attempted it within the Air and Space Museum in Washington DC... DON'T DO IT! That factor is strong. You additionally flush the bogs with a pedal factor! :O Anyway... I have a few traditional "interval" embarrassing moments. Hate the ones. Like whilst I used to be dressed in white shorts... in a film theater...that one used to be dangerous. But the only that's nearly probably the most amusing to inform (and used to be absolutely very embarrassing) is whilst I obtained my pants caught in a motorcycle chain. My motorbike had a flat or anything, so I used my brothers. My sister went down this hill and informed me approximately simply how grand it used to be, and the way I wanted to take a look at it to. So I did, and my pants obtained caught within the chain. Obviously, I wrecked, and...my pants have been particularly caught. I needed to take them off and run the entire approach house (which used to be a well mile or two) and not using a pants. It used to be very so much awkward. And that occasion totally massacred my denims. :(

Well I would have to say my MOST embarrassing time was when I got heat stoke at a horse show and passed out right in the middle of my equitation class. My mare was still walking on the rail while I was half hanging off her neck (lol) and puking all down her neck :( the judges had to pull me off my horse and lets just say i didnt win that class, haha. But i did get the sportsmanship award!

Another embarrassing moment was when I tried mounting my sister's pony with skipants on...not the best idea =) Anyways, i was planning on riding her around the pasture bareback in front of my friends so i made her stand on a hill to get a running start. Of course like a good pony she stood right their while i made a run for it...and i made it all right...right over the top of her back!!!!! Whoosh! I slipped right over her back and down, down, down the hill i kept going. When i got up and recovered my friends were standing their laughing at me because our pony was still standing their looking at me like "You fool!!!" lol, good times

well that would as of now be yesterday! most embarrassing moment. I am thinking of breezing horses for the race track and to breeze you have to be able to set up like a Jockey . so i have a trainer out to help me for the first day.

now with my legs up to my elbows. i walk around a bit and find that it is very comfy , we do a little trot and wow the legs start to hurt ! bring the horse back down to walk and go to turn the horse ( AT WALK! ) and some how lost all balance and coordination and did a forward summersalt over the top of the horses head and landed on my butt.

and now my butt hurts. and so does my pride...... ....lol

its not very funny, but any way...

I was on a trail ride with a couple of my freinds and on one side of the dyke was a big river, and on the other was a gully full of thorn bushes and mud (ouch). But we were riding down and I was in the front, my horse was looking down in the bushes, and i figured that it was just another rabbit. So I encouraged him to walk forward. All of a sudden this HUGE eagle flies past us, out of the bushes and Dusty (my horse at the time:( ) did a 180 haunch turn, flinging me off, straight on my butt.

It was really scary because i landed right on the steep edge to the sticker bushes and dusty's back feet were on the muddy edge to the deep river. he didn't back up any more cause when i fell, I didn't let go of the reins.

after we were done freaking out, my freinds all cracked up! i was not to happy about that....

Okayy, it's probably not all that great, but it was embarrassing for me. xD

SO I had been taking riding lessons for about a year and I was really doing good! I was going to a big local show, so far my dad had never seen me ride. So he took me out to the barn to watch me ride, I decided to work bareback because the mare i was riding liked to bite people when you cinched her. My dad was already impressed with the way I handled her. I lead her into the arena and was about to mount when the mare thought it'd be a great idea to trot off when I had one leg around her. I fell off a couple feet away. My dad never let me live down.

I don't know..... I haven't really had some horribly embarrassing moments (yet). I guess the worst would be when my now ex friends and I were out on a trail ride. It was cloudy, but it still hadn't rained so I figured I wouldn't need my raincoat. We were halfway back to the barn when it started pouring. We galloped back to the barn, and by the time we got back I was soaked and covered in mud, and kicking myself for not bringing my raincoat with me. When I told the people I had been on trail with that, they just stared at me for a few seconds and then started laughing....

My most embarrassing was when I was holding my brother's horse and my horse. I was going to ty them up for the farrier. Smokey (my brother's horse) sneezed on my white shirt and then wiped his nose. Then Blue (my horse) followed suit!! Kevin (our farrier) was standing right there when it happend. I was so embarrassed; and what did Kevin do? Stood there and laughed! But he's like my big brother so its all good. lol I immediately inside to change into a different shirt.

Great question! The answers are great!

I was at a show on my old horse bandit. A big black 16.3 appaloosa. I had to run down dismount then run through a tire. I got on. and there was a guy there who helps smaller people who cant get on the horse. I start trotting and the guy isn't looking then he looks back and starts running and bandit is like OOO a guy!! let's CHASE him!!! it was REALLY embarresing. Also at the show you had to run down then there was a gummy worm on the pole. Bandit was afraid of it. Ten i fially got him set up then it was going EVERY WHERE but in my mouth. Everyone was laughing... I felt like a Idiot. It took 8 minutes. I finally got it in my mouth then I trotted away. I got all this on tape thanks to my Dad..... lol. I look back and laugh though...

well i'm only 13 but i've had a few

1. I was riding my old mare bareback and i decided to be a "jockey".. it didn't go well

2. Same mare , but i was learning to jump (i'm 10 ok) and i decide to jump and she doesn't so off i go over her head.

3. This summer at my first event with my 6year old gelding. He refused EVERY jump. He warmed up perfectly and his dressage was horrible. above the bit every time.

4.november: After schooling day @ my trainer with the 6year old "ADD" gelding- he almost ran over the dressage judge because she was a wing on a xc jump, later he triees to throw me off into the water.

5. The same day i take him to the concession stand, order a hotdog, and he is practicall on top of my trying to eat it... it was horrible :)

Hmmmm.

One of my most embarressing moments would have to be when my mustang bucked me off in the walking section of a flat class at an A-rated show... oops. With my mustang, I show hunter jumpers and jumpers, and occasionally flat classes, although he usually does well in flat classes, too. On this particular day, I had either won or taken second in every jumping class I had entered. Then, when I was walking him into the arena for the equitation class, I tryed to hand my crop to my trainer... except my mustang hates crops (all it takes is for me to twitch the crop and he takes off, but it is handy if he is thinking of refusing) , and when I started handing it to my trainer, and had only one foot in the iron and one hand on the reins, he spooked from the crop and bucked me off. I landed on my feet though...

Edit: Another time... Ok, so my parents had just bought me this little jumpers/hunter jumpers pony. This pony was very stubborn, and was quite a handful for me when I was only... lets see.... maybe 8 or 9. Not to mention that the pony was only 6, and hadn't been trained to jump a whole lot...

Anyway, I went to my first jumping show on him. It was just a little local show, and the first jump was a straw bale. Well, my pony stopped dead in front of it, dumped me, then continued to eat the straw jump!

At another show, I entered this jumpers class with this pony... Well, in the middle of the class, while I was about to canter another line, he just stopped dead and laid down! I hopped off when he laid down, and then he rolled around in the arena, got up, and galloped over to the judges booth, where he shook off and got arena footing all over the judge!!! It turns out that he really had to pee, and so to get me off, he decided to roll, run around, and shake... lol the judge was good-natured and got a good laugh out of that one. :)

I was about 16, and riding this 16.2hh horse. We did some jumping, and poor PB obviously decided he'd had enough, and just walked straight through the jump, taking 3 poles AND the jump stands with him!!!
2009-12-22 09:44:08 UTC
I was just learning how to jump ( i was probably 8) and my horse kept veering to the side of the jump or refusing. Finally my instructor decided to stand on the side of the jump so my horse couldn't go to the side. My horse almost ran into her. All i can say is thank god he stopped.

I was about 9 years old, and I was getting on my horse bareback. I had just given her a bath, so she was really slippery. As soon as I had mounted I slipped off and fell off the right side. It looked soooooooooo stupid. My pony just stood there like nothing had happened.

This was at a pretty big rodeo. I had planned on taking my rookie to all of the rodeos on this circuit, and the first one is the big one at the Farm Show Complex, and with him being the spooky youngster he is, I decide "Oh, I'll just run him and get it over with". Well, my run was awfullll, and he spooked before the second barrel with me very forward and in his running motion, and I nearly fell off!

well, i was 7 i think. i went to one of my cousin Kimberleigh's horse shows and me and my aunt were down on one end of the arena and my other cousin Emma was watching a movie in the car on the other end. well a horse got "loose" down there. i wanted to go watch the movie so i said "can i go watch the movie in the car with emma?" well my aunt was on the phone and it was a quinky-dink that she said "yes" to the person she was talking to on the phone. so i started walking down (in a pink coat) and the anouncer said "little girl in the pink stop right where you are" LOL everrryyone there turned thier head to me. i was just standing there like ummmm ? what now. hahahahahaha.

lol, the first time i trotted bareback.

there was this little girl (probably 8 or so) looking at this pony at the farm, and while the pony was getting ready she was watching me ride. she was in awe watching me ride. not that i was doing anything that spectacular, but she was 8, so it seemed a little cooler lol. so after showing off a bit :P i decided to take off his tack and ride bareback to cool him down. i had only walked bareback at the time, but i was feeling rebellious so i tried trotting. not even thinking, i don't grip with my legs, i don't hold the mane, and i ask for the trot on a corner lol. i bounce around for like 3 steps, then plop! off i went. it was so embarrassing. i don't know what was going through my mind when i thought i didn't even have to grip lol! i literally just plopped off.

then i saw her dad after and he asked what happened to my wrist (i have to wear my brace when i ride). i told him i broke it earlier in the summer and i still had to ride with it. and without missing a beat he goes "oh, you fell off?" like it was a regular thing for me to fall! gahhh hahah

Eh, mine's not really horse related - but it still makes me laugh...

I was sitting outside a convenience store one day while my friend was having a smoke (she's wasn't allowed to in my car) when all of a sudden a really hottie walks up and is checking us out. So, I assumed the flirtatious body position against the hood of my car when all of a sudden my car starts to roll away! It was a 5 speed and I forgot to put it in gear.

Needlessly, I got the guy's attention when I started swearing at myself and was fumbling for my keys so I could get in a stop the car. It didn't roll very far but wow that was embarrassing.

For horse related... I have so many that none really stand out in my mind. I did cut my nose open with rusty scissors which was more stupid than anything (cinching Monster). There's been many times that I'll brag about her training and of course she automatically reverts to being an idiot.

On the morning of a horse show i was trying to tidy my horse up ( he rolled in his stall and was covered in shavings) so i was dusting off the savings and telling him what a dirty boy he was, and then he blew snot all over my brand new show shirt. so i had to go to the show with horse snot on my shirt.

Well, my idol, jennifer wooten, i was having a lesson with her after about two years of her being gone. it was my second lesson, and in the previous one i rode a thoroughbred named MJ. I was riding a horse named Chinook then, and she was riding MJ. She rode up to me and asked me is I recognized him. I told her it was her horse, the Good Witch, whom was named 2008 mare of the year, because I saw her taking her out of her stall, but it was regular old MJ. She was like no, it MJ! I felt soooo stupid.
