As each horse is in itself a complete individual I can only say what my favorites are. But that would get into a one way gab fest about how fabulous my own horses are. And we don't want that.

Clydesdale

Quarab

and a Quarterhorse/TB cross.

My preference would be a Quarter Horse, they are in general more level-headed, calmer, and easier to work with. The Arabian is definitely the hottest, because they are hot-blooded animals. The Morgan, can be a little rough to work with.

Arabian: A majority of them would be an 7-8

Morgan: 4 - 6, but there are definitely exceptions, many morgans are even pretty calm. I actually own a morgan and she's a mare of all things and she's pretty hot blooded, but nothing too much to handle.

Quarter Horse: 2 - 4. I absolutely love Quarter Horses, they can do almost anything for you, so versatile, easy to work with, affectionate, trusting. Of course, I'm biased but to me, they're obviously the better choice, although some Quarter Horses, especially some crosses can be a little rough to work with, but of course you have to keep your eyes out on all breeds

My philosophy: There's no such thing as a bad horse, you'll find a horse that's good for you, there's a good horse for everyone.

Well, I have recently been riding Morgans, and have fallen in love with the breed. The one I used to ride was a morgaXquarter horse, and she was a darling, just a tad hard headed, and threw her head untill I worked her problems out. But the problems were mainly due to her previous owner. I'd say her temperament was a 6

The horse I'm riding currently, though I haven't had much time on her as of yet, is a full blooded Morgan (least, thats the way she looks, and what the previous owner told us) and she's young, so kinda high-spirited, about a 5-6. She also has a slightly hard mouth, but I think she was ridden english previously, and isn't used to the neck-reining i do as a western rider. She also has wonderful gaits, a nice smooth trot and can extend it splendidly, and a great lope/canter.

The only experience I've had on an arab, is ... bad, to say the least. She is very high-spirited, and has a mouth like a rock, but thats her previous rider's fault, not hers. I'd give her a 9 in temperement, but when she gets it in her head that she wants to GO she's a 10.

Quarter horses are well rounded horses, from my experience, and have great temperaments, and move well.

It actually depends on your personal taste, and wants in a horse. If you are planning to go to rodeos, and ride western, then the Quarter horse is what you need. If you would like to show your horse(s), then the Morgan and Arabian is good for you. I have worked with all three of these horses as a child, and I have to say that the most mellow horse is the quarter horse... it is about 3/10, when the Arabian is about 7/10, and the Morgan 4/10. All three horses are excellent in my opinion, but it's up to you. ^ ^

The largest differences.....well....Arabians run around with their heads and tails in the air kind of floaty like, they have small behinds, thin shoulders and I don't particularly care for how they are put together body wise. However, they do have very elegant dished faces. The Arabians I've had the 'privilege' of meeting were not well mannered, they were hot headed, their riders let them get away with kicking like jerks on the trail, and they could never keep up, and they move odd. I believe that QH's are MUCH better put together, their behinds seem to fit their body types better, they have thick shoulders. They are usually well mannered and can virtually do any and every discipline and type of riding. You can find a QH for every personality type, they go for hot headed to docile and quiet. QH are the most sought after and most popular horse breed in the United States. I think that for a first horse a QH would be your best choice. However, it is all up to the individual, I wouldn't put an Arabian in my barn if my life depended on it, I think they are crazy and I wouldn't trust them any further than I could throw them. HOWEVER, that has been MY experience with them and it ONLY MY opinion. I am MORE than sure that there are very docile and well mannered Arabians out there, I just don't care.

You're just going to end up starting a fight. Everyone on here is very opinionated (and quite a few love to flame other people). Everyone has a favorite breed, and gets offended when someone else doesn't like that breed. That said, here's what I think.

Arabs: Personally, I'm not a fan. They're just not my style. I like big, beefy horses that look like tanks and Arabs are most certainly not big and beefy. :p As for temperament, obivously it differs a ton depending on the individual horse, but most I've met have been around a 5-7.

Morgans: Honestly, I don't know much about them, but again, they're just not my style. The one's I've been around have been around a 3-5 temperament, but again, it depends a ton on the horse.

AQHA: This is my breed (yes, I own the QH breed :p ). I love QH's with their gigantic butts and adorable movement (for the upper-level show horses). As for temperament, I really think it varies a ton in AQHA. It's the one breed where I think that you can get any temperament under the sun. Most I've worked with have been around a 1-3, but I've also worked with ones that are a 10, and lots that are anywhere in between.

Im not an expert on any of these breeds. I have a thoroughbreed. But what i have heard an arabian would be your most high spirited horse. I have known quarter horse that have been calmer more laid back. Thay make a good western riding horse. Arabian would probably be english. Dont kjnow much about morgans, my friend had one only morgan i ever really knew he was pretty laid back.

Like most things the best horse depends on, the horse. It is difficult to classify a horse breed on a scale as each horse as a different personality, temperament, etc. I own/ride a Quarter Horse who is extremely laid back, not a push-button mind you but, I got him after he was a barrel horse racer who went lame. Now come to think of it most quarter horses I've rode are laid back and easy going but, again those were greatly trained horses. Any horse can be "the perfect horse" if you spend enough time training/riding him/her. The more time you spend with the horse the more he/she will listen/obey you.

Check out the horse thoroughly, ask to ride the horse, pet him and check out his temperament, if at all possible bring an expert or your trainer (if you have one) along too, they will be able to spot the best horse for you. If you want a laid back horse it may be better to get an adult horse instead of a jumpy yearling or foal. If the ears are pinned back and the eyes are "bugged" out that horse is likely quite high-strung/stressed. Ask lots of questions about the horse to the seller who will usually be very willing to answer wanting to make sure the horse goes home with the best possible owners and use good judgment based on that.

Hope this helps

Quarter Horses definetely have the best temperment out of those three breeds. They are also great all around horses and can excell in just about any discipline. I would choose a Quarter Horse over any other breed of horse.

I like TBs best actually. But.. QH tend to be good level headed beginner horses, but they can be much more. Arabians can tend to be hot headed and spooky (not trying to sterotype, but the ones I've worked around were nightmares.) Never worked with a Morgan.. I'd say Arabs are about an 8, Morgans, maybe 5? and QH around a 3.. just my opinion.

It really all depends on what are going to be using them for.... Arabians are more of a fiery horse and are used more for saddlseat huntseat, the english discipline.. They are light horses, very fine head on them. they are known for their head, tail sets, stepping motion, and their necks, and they fine legs. They can also vary in size. They are a good breed..

A morgan horse is known for being the all around horse. It can really do anything. Although also goes with the english discipline. They can vary in size... Although they are also know for their hot headedness but not all of them are like that. A morgan can be built more like a quarter horse and more of a typy horse. They are known for their stepping motion, their head, neck, and tail... (a lot like the arabian....) They are really good horses, they are my favorite truly.

But a quarter horse is more of a calm laid back type of horse. They are more of a bulky build. They do more of a western seat and trail... This is one of the more used horses because they are so calm and laid back.

Personally i think that the Quarter Horse would be the most laid back horse of the three. But my Grandma owns two Arabians, one is very laid back, and the other spooks at almost all things that he is not used to. However, she used Parelli on her laid back Arabian which is the only reason that he is that way. So it pretty much all depends on the horse and how it was trained.

Arabian- 9 or 10. They have VERY high spirits and they skitter (i guess that is what you could call it)

Morgan- 4 or 5. They do this "dance" half jog/trot/canter/walk/gallop and it is hard to ride through.

QH- 2 or 3. I find them to be way too mellow for my liking. They just plod... and I ride English so...

Arabian= ugh. I dont like them. Personally, they are ugly to me, hot, and need EXPRIENCED riders.

my rate: 9

Morgan= not very good. not as ugly, but still extreamly hot. again, experienced riders only.

my rate:7

Quarter horse= best horses in the world. they excel at EVERYTHING. yes, they may not be as good as an oldenburg in jumpers, but just about everything thing else they can do. They are great and all-around, can be hot or calm enough for a 1 year old.

Temperament has NOTHING to do with breed. I have seen uber laid back horses and uber hot horses, and the breed has had nothing to do with it.
