Ive had horses forever but this will be my first mule.. Maybe some good sites where I can read up on them or personal experiences? The mule im getting is BIG over 16 hands, Pure white. He hasn't been ridden in over two years. But i was told he is very easy going..

Mules are very smart. There are so many differences between horses and mules its amazing. First of all mules are more sure footed, their eyes are more on the sides of their heads so they can see all four feet unlike the horse which can only see their front feet. This was acquired by the donkey. Also mules are generally more narrow so they are easier on the knees and rock front to back as opposed to side to side like a horse. Thus the mule is a more comfortable ride since front to back is a more natural motion for the human body than side to side. Mules tend to remember things for longer periods of time so if set out to pasture and brought back in will remember more than most horses. Mules can also be bigger jerks at times due to the stubborn donkey side of them. They can jump right out of a saddle (most mules lack withers) and they can jump a fence from standing in front of it, unlike the horse, they don't need a running start.

*an all white mule is said to be good luck :)*

Good luck with your new mule! They are awesome and I hope your first experience with them is a great one!!

You never spoke if it is a genny ot jack. still mules are just like a horse with more! they are easy keeps, sure with step, packers & riders. you can train your mule to show & be the winner or you can take long desert rides & be low on supplies. either way, you are lucky to have this mule. if it's a genny, she can't have babies. but if it's a jack, you can breed him to any horse & get a baby! if he has been cut, then you have same as a gelding! I have owned 3 mules in my life & loved them all! be safe!

The only thing I know about mules is that they are sterile and can't reproduce. Also, they make great "moms" for other foals.
