Heyy guys!

I'm doing an assignment on jumping and fence construction for college and I need to know the use of "novelty fences" as part of a task. I'm not too sure what novelty fences are, but I think I may have an idea:

"Fences that are typically used in show jumping and fun shows, consisting of vibrant colours and "novelty" elements such as planks with a wave design on them. Used to test the horse and rider's ability to jump these fences without the horse refusing due to their unnatural appearance".

That's my idea of a novelty fence. Is that right? If not, I would like to know what they are and what they are used for! I can't seem to find any information on it!

Thank you! =)

That sounds about right. I would define novelty jumps as those designed to have a theme, to be a bit more... vibrant, exciting, and different than your ordinary run of the mill striped-poles-and-plain-standards.

My parents and I have built several novelty jumps for a local event. We made a telephone-booth themed jump, a western themed jump, dragon-fly themed jump, and a tennis themed jump. I'll have to see if I can drum up some photos for you.

I found a couple decent pictures of some of the jumps my dad and I built.

Yes I think they are fences that are very unnatural and not of normal shape or design. I've seen different shaped fillers and jack of the boxes as wings! Here are a couple of websites that sell various novelty fences:

I think you could also class the cross country ones such as some of these

I've jumped over a wooden owl and also a snail before!
