Question:
Iowa Farrier Prices?

I'm considering buying a horse, but I'm concerned about farrier prices. The horse that I'm leasing currently (the one I'm considering buying) has front shoes only. Since I live in Iowa and it's coming up on winter, he probably won't need shoes that much longer. He probably only needs shoes June through September. So for the other eight months, he'd only need trimming every six-ish weeks. Could anyone give me an estimate as to what this would cost?

The most expensive I can find in Iowa should be about $80 - and cheapest running about $15 for all 4 feet. Just call around and get recommendations from other owners, trainers, etc. Like the saying goes kNOw Hoof kNOw horse - the money you spend on your horse's feet, will dictate how the horse performs - poor farrier job can ruin a horse for the rest of their life.

I am in western Iowa and my farrier charges $30 for a barefoot trim.

In the winter you may only need to trim every 8-10 weeks as they get much less hoof growth in the winter.

We leave ours all barefoot year round but it depends on your horse and what the ground is like where you ride or what discipline you ride.

I am not sure what the price for shoes is I think around $50-60 for trim and front shoes.

I live close to Iowa, our farrier charged 40$ per horse. Have you considered letting him go barefoot year-round? Better for his feet, and it would cost less.
