So my instructor has a book of dressage tests. And yesterday i was practicing training level test 1. Today i went on youtube to see how this test looks like when mastered and it was totally different. Could it be that the test i was learning is outdated. What should i tell my instructor. All help appreciated.

These are the current dressage tests. print and enjoy!

Yes, tests are changed every 4 years or so, often just slightly. The judges will expect to see the current test, not some previous incarnation of the test.

I hope you learned the right test, but if you didn't, it was a good learning experience, and you can do it again. I was at a show once in CO and saw Hilda Gurney ride 12 different horses at 4 different levels and 10 different tests, and she did it all from memory! All in one day. She is a fountain of energy and knowledge. Gotta give her credit for a good memory!

The United States Dressage Federation (USDF) determines the tests. As you know there are several levels. Not all levels may not be updated. Some may go for awhile without being updated. But yes, they do change.

If you go into a show, the judge will expect you to do the most current USDF test for that level. Everyone else will be doing the same test. The judge will be scoring you on a sheet that has the movements printed on them so she can make sure that you ride the test in the correct order.

The best way to keep up to date is to join the U.S. Dressage Federation. Their web site is listed below.

You can also see the most current tests on the United States Equestrian Federation web site. Link listed below.

are you in the united states? what kind of show are you doing?

If you are in the united states and doing a show connected to USDF somehow...then here are the updated tests.

They are updated every few years (four years, I think). The newest test is from 2007. Here it is:

All tests are different, with different associations there are different rules and different patterns. Ask your instructor for conformation.
