I asked a question the other day about a rescue horse having possible ringworm. All of the answers said that they didn't see any ringworm. I took some new pics and I honestly think he does have it.. I just want some more of your opinions now that I have some clearer pictures. If you DO think he has it please tell me the best way to treat it. I have MTG already and can get whatever else would work best. Thanks The pictures are in order from oldest to newest so go to the bottom of the page to see the 'ringworm' pics.

I'm not sure if its ring worm, but try iodine solution on it. Put it on every day with a rag and just let it soak. Hopefully that will clear it up in no time. I wouldn't use MTG on it though. My old mare had rain rot and when I put MTG on it it just made it spread worse. The iodine really cured it fast.

He is so lucky to have an angel like you to save him. I bet when he gets a little more weight on him he'll be strikingly handsome =]

Keep up the good work!

Here's the iodine solution I get from Wal-mart. It costs about $6-7 a bottle

He just has some creeping crud, that isnt ring worm.... ring worm is called ring because it is almost perfect little circles... I have seen it a lot and none of these pictures look like ring worm. Just get some medicated shampoo / betadine scrub and wash and rinse these spots well every other day for a week or so. Make sure you pick or pull off any dirt or scabby things when washing so the medicine can get directly on the skin. You can put the MTG on it after it is washed, rinsed and dry. Give him a coat conditioner in his feed like super 14 or source. They will really make a difference in his skin coat in about 30 to 60 days. You are going to have a really beautiful horse in about 6 months! Good luck and I am happy you found each other.

The hibiclense is an antimicrobial soap so at least it can't hurt him at best it will help clear up his skin condition. It could be rain rot or any number of other conditions caused by poor nutrition and poor care. Your vet will be able to tell you for sure. Right after I bought my first horse he started losing his hair in big patches. It turned out that the people who sold him to me hadn't wormed him in forever and decided to worm him just before I took possession of him. The dying worms caused an allergic reaction that resulted in a severe case of hives which in turn caused his hair to fall out. That is possibly what happened to your poor fellow. Who allows a horse to look like that? No excuse! Glad you got him and are putting weight on him.

Poor horse certainly needs some groceries!

No need to panic, just scrub the area with vinegar. Cheaper than the vet and creams and will kill ringworm just as quick.

I see no evidence.

What a cutie pie! It's so sad that you can see a deformity in his face, looks like from too small of a halter.

Good for you to take in a rescue!

EDIT: If it IS ringworm. You will need an anti-fungal treatment. A tube from your local drugstore of jock-itch cream would work just fine.

Hi Jessica , it's not ringworm: first wash the horse completely with a medicated wash, when dry brush it well, specially around the lesions,

what I use for this is udder cream "delaval antiseptic udder cream" the secret of this cream is that you must rub it in "not dab it on" "I HAVE USED THIS CREAM ALL MY LIFE IT WILL DO THE JOB"

If you do it like i told you "promise"

any body that saves a horse in this condition "care's" please post with your results

yes thats ringworm!!!!! very common and contagious

nothing to really worry about

CAN BE TREATED WITH MEDICATED WASH DAILY

AND SOME ANTIFUNGAL CREAM!!!! make sure you wash your hands and wear gloves with that particular horse to prevent spreading....

you dont need to see a vet its only a common treatment and no need to bother the vets with!!!!

just get some good medicated wash and use that and give him a good scrub!!! you will need to disinfect his rugs and brushes though everytime they are used to prevent it from spreading on his body!!!

hope i helped

AND BTW YOUVE DONE AN AMAZING JOB TAKEING HIM IN!!!!

good luck to you both hes a handsome boy!!

Can't tell, I would get a vet to look at him to make an assessment.

Does need some rehab.
