i was board so i posted this
okay so me and my friend were betting on which horse goes faster a QH or a TB lol
i said a qh would win
she said tb
i know that it depends on the health age and what they are used for but it think that there is a possibility a qh could beat a tb

also i have heard the qh can go really fast in short bursts and tbs can run a longer distance but not faster

i know many of you will be going agianst me so dont give this whole history about them just what you think or if you had some YouTube video

thanks:)

im am not saying one is better than another i just want to see what you guys think

I prefer a Thoroughbred over a QH because I am taller and like to have something with comparable size under my butt. I personally wouldn't own either because I a partial to Arabians as I show and train them by myself. I have trained QH and Thoroughbreds but they just wouldn't fit into my riding and showing schedule. I like a QH for a beginner horse for a kid that is just starting because they are way more relaxed. I would prefer a Thoroughbred for some one who can handle than and wants a little bit more of a challenge. I like the Arabian because they are in between bothe the QH and the Thoroughbred and can adapt to the different riding levels.

Racing QHs are bred up to 7/8 TB. The QH for sprints, definitely, and the shortest races start at something like 200 yards and then go up (quarter mile is 440 yards, for reference).

The longest distance for QH racing is considered a sprint for TBs.

The fastest TB, Dr. Fager, ran a mile in 1 minute 32 1/5 seconds, which is under 50 mph, about 48. You can find a video of this on youtube.

Well, it depends on how long the race is. If the race is less than 1/2 mile, then I'd bet qh. If its over that, thoroughbred. Quarter horses are QUARTER horses for a reason. :)

In a short race, a QH would win. As the name suggests, a Quarter mile. It's what they were bred for, those short bursts of speed.

Anything to a mile, and beyond, a Thoroughbred would crush a QH.

It's just how they were bred.

Depends on the distance of the race.

In a long distance race, a TB would win almost every time.

In a short distance race, a QH would win almost every time.

If you're looking only at speed, a QH is faster. They are the fastest horses there is. But, that doesn't mean they can outrun a horse bred for stamina and endurance like a TB.

Well, If you had a Quarter Horse racehorse, and a Thoroughbred race horse, and raced them at a quarter mile the Quarter Horse would win, race them at a mile and a quarter and the Thoroughbred would win.

QH got its name for being the fastest horse over a quarter mile.

If you put a QH against a TB in anything longer, assuming the horses are otherwise equally matched (athletic ability, fitness level, age), the TB will win.

And personally I'd take a nice TB over a QH any day.

That race turned out just how I would expect it to. At 1/4 or even 3/8 I would expect the QH to win since they are sprinters. After that the QH is running out of steam and the endurance of the TB allows it to take the lead. If the race is longer the Thoroughbred will win my a greater distance as the QH continues to slow.

If you have a Quarter horse , a TB and an Arab all break the gate at the same time, the quarter horse will be in front until the end of the first quarter mile, the TB will pass him and make it to the 6 furlong (or maybe even the mile post) first and then the arab will bounce by and still be running for another mile.

Quarter Horses are named for the fact that they are only bred to sprint over a quarter of a mile. Thoroughbreds, however, are bred to have more endurance and are able to carry their speed over a longer distance. So if you were measuring the speed over anything more than a quarter of a mile, than the thoroughbred is defiantly the faster breed.

As in the words from the dwarf in the Lord of the Rings to the elf that could run fast, "we dwarfs are sprinters!"

haha sorry for the lame quote but in a way, it goes along the lines of TB's and QH.

Quarter Horses get their name because they are the fastest when it comes to the quarter mile. So they are more sprinters, but my friends QH, General, can outrun any horse I know, even the TB's at the stable but alas, we don't have a mile stretch to run.

TB's are definately fastest for long distance. There is no denying it! One TB, the Pamplamousse, is said to supposedly run 50 mph. I don't know if it is true but that sounds awesome.

They both are the fastest, TB's for the long run and QH's for the short. One is a good starter and the other can finish strong. Depends on the kind of race and such but in a way, I would say the TB might just be a bit above the QH. Hope this helped!

you said you thought a QH would win, but in the video you posted the TB won. Most TB's are just bred to race, they have a streamlined look and are built for speed. There are racing QH's (there is a retired QH racehorse at my barn) but normally TB's are faster.

QH's are fast, but for a longer race, or anything over a quarter mile, a TB is more likely to win.

You anwsered your own question. A qh can run faster in short bursts. This is why they are called quarter horses because they are good for about a 1/4 of a mile.

The Quarter Horse is so named because they are the fastest horse running the quarter-mile. Thoroughbreds are faster for longer distances.

perfect example of how a tb wins at distance. Overall, they are the faster horse i think. It really all depends on the horse because ive seen a tb stomp a qh in shorter distances also, and vice versa.

QH are fast sprinters, but suck at longer distances. I raced a TB with a QH at my old barn in the field with a friend. Same age, condition, training, etc. TB won.

My friend has a QH and I have a TB and when we always race I always win and when they race in the paddock my TB always comes out first.

i iz a horse with brain damage.

You realize this is going to cause some heated debate?

Faster, probably a TB. The QHs I know are big, fat, and happy WP horses. Maybe the barrel racing ones could beat a TB, but the average TB we have here (like our hunter/jumper ones) could kill one of our QHs.

Just my opinion.

Hope this helps!
