Question:
What are some of your barn pet peeves?

For example, my old barn puts almost EVERY new horse they get in either a kimberwick or a regular pelham, if they need it or not.
They also spend buy 5 sh*tty new school horses at a time, instead of buying maybe two or three good schoolies.
What about you? What are some thing(s) your barn does or did that bothers you?

--Also, what is your biggest riding pet peeve? Something that if the rider was your student would be the first thing you worked on. Mine would be over arched backs.

My trainer cancels lessons ALL THE TIME due to "adverse weather conditions" even when it's a nice, sunny day. And then I can't ever fit in a makeup, so I loose a lesson. Happens all the time.

As for riders, there are the infamous "I did that!" riders - Keep your head up: "It was!". Don't lean into the turn: "I didn't! You must be seeing things." Look ahead to the next jump: "I was, you just couldn't see because I was squinting." UGH if I was a trainer, these people would be out.

And then there are the "popular" girls who think they can treat everyone else like crap because Daddy's money buys them a shiny new TB every 2 years. It's even worse when they say "I got too tall for him." a 17.2 hh Thoroughbred? Hmm.

EDIT: Yahoo Answers pet peeve: When someone gives a thumbs-down to EVERY SINGLE answer except theirs. I bet you didn't even take the time to read them before doing it.

Kind of like your barn school horse thing

The barn owners buy 5-7 year old green horses for dirt cheap because they "don't want them to die soon" and don't want to spend money

-_- too bad no kids can ride them. I have since taken on one of said ponies...

Also

They don't buy mares. Only geldings because they are apparently always calmer. Okay SOMETIMES, but that doesn't mean you should over look a nice mare! Urggg. Also, no trainer. Kids who have never jumped are allowed to jump horses that have never jumped. Yiiiiiikes.

Oh and putting every horse in a Tom Thumb even if they are the 22 year old been there done that packer. And the kid is a total beginner and has no idea not to use the reins for balance.

Riding pet peeve- people that ride up fast/close to you. People that critique you rudely when they were not asked to.

Totally agree with you Son Of A Gun!

My biggest barn pet peeves is people act like they are a "cowgirl," or "horse lover" yet spend a total of 5 minutes grooming their horse, and than just get on the horse get off the horse and leave without any bonding or grazing or grooming ,That is NOT horsemanship! My biggest riding pet peeve is heavy hands and bouncing around. Heavy hands are always bad! Bouncing around on the other hand has happened to us all at one point or another so I'm not as rigid about that. Anyone who says that their very first attempt at stirrup less work they didn't bounce around a bit is lying.

My biggest pet peeve is when the boarders show up after not being there for weeks and work their horses into the dirt and then leave. We seriously have boarders who wont come for over a month then they tack up their horse walk for about 5 seconds and then canter for an hour. The horse is then all sweaty and tired and they just pull the saddle off and put the horse back with out brushing it. I hate sweaty saddle marks if you have tie to ride then you have time to brush your horse.

For riding it is people who squeeze the horse to death to hold on and pull on the reins at the same time to hold on and to stop them from going forward because they are squeezing the horse. Especially when the rider says I don't know why he won't stop or slow down he must need worked harder.

I don't have many pet peeves. My horse is boarded at the barn where we bought her and she is pasture kept with her buddies. My job is to muck, groom, and clean. My only barn pet peeve is when someone doesn't put a grooming tool back where it belongs. If I'm fretting around my horse trying to get her cleaned up to ride and come to find the hoof-pick is missing, I get a little irritated because I spend more time searching than bonding. I'm only the one out of two boarders, which means I don't have to have my own everything. I've been friends with the owner for 8 years, and she'll let me borrow about anything...because I put it back. Only the other boarder has everything labeled and coded. (No problem with that... I envy that, but my horse could care less if I had my own tools, I'm not moving anytime soon) Y'all know how those little suckers disappear! Ha ha.

My riding pet peeve? I ride alone, and I can't stand it when drivers go SUPER SUPER slow....like creeping slow when they pass my horse. It only scares her more. She has no problem with people who just go by at the country road speed limit...but I don't know any being that is comfortable with drivers creeping up on them. I've had people stop and wait while I was walking along. Then they roll their eyes at me like it's my fault they're waiting. "Hello!!! You stopped, you wanted to wait! You can certainly go ahead, my horse will not attack your car."

Well right now my BO is trying to sell a tiny, badly trained, spooky but lazy pony that only tolerates people for $1200 advertising that she's had Parelli training when in reality, she's had a total of three people use their methods on her (to no avail) who aren't actually even Parelli certified trainers. So that's kind of a pet peeve. She also has it set in her mind that she needs a tiny pony (like 11-12 hands) so that the lesson kids won't be intimidated by it. I think that this is absolutely ridiculous.

Biggest riding pet peeve is when people don't correct bad behavior.

barn pet peeves- I can't stand disorganization. When everything is in a clutter, or you can't find anything because your stall mate throws things everywhere or doesn't pick up after themselves. I love my things organized (even color coded) but I'm OCD, what can I say?

riding pet peeve- I hate it when people bring inexperienced riders around so they can show off, they'll put a newby (who probably doesn't care to look at another horse after their ride) on a horse and never show them the ropes before riding, so it's dangerous and probably uncomfortable for the horse!!!!

@ the rider who said something about others minding their own business I AM WITH YOU 100% ON THAT ONE!!!!

I hate when people constantly do not follow posted rules. ( every one breaks a rule or two now and again but im talking about on a regular basis).

I also HATE kids younger then 13 years old at the barn. Younger then 10 becuase they tend to be extremly rambuctious, loud and are not able to follow rules. And younger then 13 becuase thats the age they tend to become really snotty, talk back, and well have no respect for others.

Other then that I agree with Son of a Gun, the thing i cant stand the most is people not minding their own bussines.

People letting their horses loose on the yard... It wasn't safe especially when bringing another horse in :L

Toes sticking out, it drives me up the wall!

Also, I hate those people who clearly can't control a well behaved horse and buy the most difficult horse imaginable. Also, I used to ride a 16.3 TB, very well if I do say so myself for a lady. When I stopped looking after it, due to an accident, she decided to dirty my name by saying 'she was too small for him', baring in mind I'm 5"7 and she was 5"5 and could ride a whole lot better than she could...

form of like your barn college horse subject The barn vendors purchase 5-7 twelve months previous eco-friendly horses for airborne dirt and dirt low-priced because of the fact they "do no longer choose them to die quickly" and don't opt to spend money -_- too undesirable no little ones can journey them. I even have on the grounds that taken on one among mentioned ponies... additionally they do no longer purchase mares. purely geldings because of the fact they're curiously continually calmer. ok each on occasion, yet that doesn't recommend you should over look an impressive mare! Urggg. additionally, no coach. little ones who've on no account jumped are allowed to bounce horses that have on no account jumped. Yiiiiiikes. Oh and putting each horse in a Tom Thumb notwithstanding in the event that they're the 22 twelve months previous been there completed that packer. And the youngster is a finished newbie and has no thought to no longer use the reins for stability. using puppy peeve- those that journey up quickly/close to to you. those that critique you rudely while they weren't asked to. completely trust you Son Of A Gun!

When people leave their horse in an unclean stable, or put the wrong rug on. Not really any of my buisness, but poor horse! I've been known to clean their stable for them when they're not there and the horse is in a filthy stable

Biggest riding pet peeve: a tiny one, but when people are on the wrong diagnol in trot or the wrong lead in canter!

Copy Cats, The barn I bord at is a older barn, It doesnt have any jumps just barrels and ground poles, and well im a jumper, so one day me and my friend used the barrels & ground poles as jumps, and this one girl, the very next day decided to try jumping the about 2ft pol across the barrels, she was riding western and I don't think her horse had ever jumped before cause it leaped 4 ft in the air ,managed to knock over the jump, and Knocked the wind out of the girl because the saddle horn hit her in the stomache, I mean seriously? She also tried to compy my friend by thinking her horse can ground tie ( my friends horse stands statue still until she is asked to do something) and her horse decided to go charging down the isle. I also hate it when I got to Ride and theres 5 piles of manure in the arena, Gross!

As far as Riding goes, Floppy hands and legs, people that arent quite with their bodies, makes me want to walk up to them and tell them exactly what there doing wrong.

my barn pet peeve is when people leave their halters hanging from the tie rail. Then I have to remove it because there isn't enough room to have two tied. or when they leave it dangling and I have to remove it also because I don't want my horse to step through that and hurt himself. My riding peeve is just when people don't have respect for your space. I've been run into four times by different people. My horse doesn't mind other horses but now he pins his ears sometimes because he doesn't want to be run into again. There is also one person who expects me to move out of the way for her. Even if she is coming up behind me going the same direction she expects me to move off the rail. One time she even ran into me because I didn't move. She is supposed to go to the inside to pass. Those are my pet peeves.

My biggest barn pet peeve is all the drama and backstabbing. I just want to find somewhere people just leave each other alone.

For riding, it's probably chicken wing arms. Seriously, you're not going to be able to make your horse fly, so stop trying! Lol.

People who own a horse but never ride them let alone brush them. Than they complain about how they never see their horse even though they are home all day Fridays and their horse is in their backyard...I have no sympathy for these people.

10 reasons i love keeping my horse at home

1 nobody "borrowing" my things.

2 nobody elses "community brushes" touching my horses

3 nobody leaves poop in the wash bay

4 tack isnt strung all over the place

5 i can always find a lead rope

6 nobody tells me how to ride/train or care for my horse

7 nobody hand feeds my horses treats daily

8 my whips, brushes, reins, bits, cavesons, longe lines, girth, polos and boots are always clean and where i left them

9 i see my horses every time i look out the window

10 in the summer when i have the windows open i can hear them chomping away at the grass, it makes me happy =)

Spoiled kids who get extremely expensive horses and tack from their parents regardless of the fact that they don't know the first thing about owning a horse, and have only been riding for about a month.

Also, when my trainer sleeps through my lesson. It's quite unprofessional.

Well, i don't see many pet peeves... i just HATE drama... and there is a lot of family rivalry. I, luckily find ways to avoid it (most of the time.). But just so much people drama. all i focus on is my horse and her best care. :)

My riding pet peeve is when people ride for ONLY fun. they need to STAY in control. If they just run around, dee da dah... URG that bugs me!!!! (lol, i know i sounds retarded...)

Happy Trails!

I hate it when people think they're sooooo much better than you and sooooo cool cause they have a horse even though 1) you've had a horse longer than they hve 2) your horse is harder to ride 3) you're obviously a better rider. Yeah I HATE that so much. Or when they act like they own the barn.

And for the second one. Posting diagonals.

my pet peeve list:

~the people who "borrow" my things without asking, then never return them.

~being promised the greenest field, then getting put out in the worst one.

~being screwed over by old ladies who take credit for my work.

~having to wait two weeks extra for my farrier to "reschedule".

~people who have no clue how to ride and that know absolutely nothing about my horse that try to tell me how to ride.

~spurs used by immature little kids

~draw reins used by immature little kids

etc.

Somehow, people always TD me for this answer, but its when people don't mind their own friggin business. It's not your concern how much my horse is grained or how I wrap my polos or how much I spend at shows.

Riding? I don't care, not my concern. If I had to pick something its people who don't try or attempt to ride effectively and then complain how they never improve.
