I was on youtube and I came across this stupid video, I think it is totally outrageous and this person must be mentally disabled to think this is an acceptable thing to do to a horse...Let me know what you think, I will post the link in additional details.

I've seen far worse when it comes to horse videos on youtube, from bad training to just pure ignorance being around horses. Let that day be a lesson to that boy that unless you and the horse are trained for a trick involving that, 9 out of 10 times an action like that is going to have that same result.

The thing is, we as viewers were not present at the barn when it occurred, people could have told the young man that performing that sort of move would end up with him getting hurt and his ego could have gotten the best of him. In reality, the way most people learn is the hard way.

That's the trick rump mount. It's easy for a very athletic rider and a well-trained horse. I saw an old western with Roy Rogers doing that. What I actually saw was this:

Leonard Sly runs towards Trigger.

Someone (presumably a stunt double) does the trick rump mount on a horse.

Leonard Sly rides away on Trigger.

So "Roy" did the rump mount, but the studio probably felt it unwise to risk Leonard and Trigger, whether they actually could do it or not.

"I know how to ride," a young boy told me. "I've seen it on TV." Who knows, maybe that same fellow who learned his riding on TV is now into attempting tricks.

As for me, "I know how to get a broken jawbone. I've seen someone try it on YouTube just today!"

Roy Rogers was not the first to use this mount, but those who successfully do train their horses first, Buffalo Bill Cody did it in his Wild West Shows, I have owned horses that you could mount from either side or the back.

Stupid, yes. But very far from the stupidest thing I've ever seen done with a horse.

Typical of those who are not really horseman and learned from watching Roy Rogers movies. The rump mount was pretty much a trade mark of Roy's.

I guess some horses are just touchy about their rump.
