1. Dressage girths are not usually sized correctly for the length of close contact or all purpose billets. If you find one that fits, I guess it would work, but I would not recommend it.

2. I use Leather New for all my stuff, but nearly any leather cleaner found at your local tack shop should do the trick.

3. I have two horses. One is black and she wears a baby blue practice pad. The other is bay and he wears a black practice pad with purple piping.

4. These are all designed to protect the respective areas of a horse's leg/hoof from injury or to give added support in the respective area. Bell boots are great for preventing horses that over-reach and step on their own heels from pulling their shoes off.

5. Each horse is unique in what they like best. I find that most of my family's horses like the base of their tail or the underside of their neck scratched most.

6. A running martingale looks like this: http://www.thornhillusa.com/pic/2241_martingale.JPG

It alters the angle of pull on the reins, so the horse is pulled down instead of just straight back. It's designed to help a horse with a high head set keep his/her head down.

7. A standing martingale looks like this: http://4.bp.blogspot.com/_nN_ZJULEfww/TT-r8zbxIuI/AAAAAAAAAPM/VUjKwmrbXPI/s1600/english+standing+martingale.jpg

It attaches to the nose band and stops a horse from throwing their head up too high but it does not interfere with the reins.

8. Nylon is not a breakaway material. There are nylon halters with leather breakaway straps for the crown piece. Leather itself is the best for breakaway. An entirely leather halter allows for more points of breakaway, depending on what area of the halter is caught and which way the horse is pulling.

9. Both are fine. I prefer cotton, but that's just personal preference.

10. Do you mean a helmet for the horse or a helmet that a rider wears around a horse? Both would serve the same function: to protect the skull from impact. Most commonly, helmets are seen on horses that tend to thrash around in a trailer, and it is used to protect the horse from hitting their head in the trailer. Riders wear helmets to protect their heads if they fall and hit their head.

Here's a couple questions that i have about horses(obviously).....

1. Can you jump with a dressage girth? Not in shows but in jumping lessons.

My friend use to use a dressage girth on her horse before he did his tendon, and it didn't seem to bother him.

2. Best tack cleaner? (bridle, saddle, halter, girth)

My bridle and saddle I use a damn cloth to wipe it over, then use saddle cleaner on the saddle and leather oil on my bridle. I just use a dam cloth on my halter and girth.

3 Whats your horses color? Whats his/her saddle pad color?

I use black on my chestnut gelding, but that's what he came with, but I'd use either that, hunter green or blue.

4. What do ankle boots, bell boots, hoof boots, leg wraps, and hock wraps do?

Bell boots help the horse when they over reach, leg wraps prevent tendon injury and I'm unsure about the rest sorry.

5. favorite places horses like to be scratched?

My boy likes his withers and a spot on his bum, but mainly his withers.

6. Whats a running martingale?

A running martigale is used for horses who tend to be a bit speedy, they can be used to help with some leverage on contact as well...

7. Whats a standing martingale?

A standing martingale is used mainly for horses or ponies who tend to throw their heads up or hold their heads really high and hard...

8. Whats better breakaway halter, leather, or nylon halters?

I believe it's a personal choice but I've been told breakaway and leather halters are better for training. I've always used nylon halters.

9. Whats a better lead? Leather or Nylon?

I've always use a nylon later as if the horse freaked out neither you or the horse will get as many injuries and they are easier to hold onto incase the horse does freak.

10.What does a horse helmet do?

I have never heard of them.

1. you can, but it's not ideal

2. i love horseman's one-step (i use it on my boots too)

3. i don't own a horse, but i have a bunch of saddle pads / polos: white, black and then a bunch in the pastel colour range

4. some of your terminology isn't overly specific, so i can only guess what you mean.. but in general that stuff is protective for the horse's hooves and legs.. there are polos and tendon boots, these are for added leg support when riding. there are travel wraps, aka leg wraps for trailering to protect against bumps and scratches. there are standing wraps, these have a few uses --> reduce swelling after a hard workout, secure first aid treatments, added warmth in the colder weather to prevent stiffness. there are bell boots, these prevent the horse from pulling off it's front shoes if it over-reaches with it's hind legs. then there are hoof boots that are fully enclosed over the hoof and fastened around the coronet band (i'm guessing that's what you're referring to) those are handy for trail rides on rough terrain, and also for winter turnout / outdoor riding to add a bit of extra friction (like snow tires on a car) and to prevent ice build up in the hoof.

5. depends on the horse

6. a running martingale is a training tool that prevents the horse from throwing it's head up, but isn't too restrictive and is useful for horses that jump larger obstacles

7. a standing martingale has the same function as the running martingale but it is more restrictive and therefore is not recommending for jumpers

8. rope halters are the best based on all the things i've heard

9. not sure, personal preferance maybe? i prefer the thick twisted rope leads, i find they're more comfortable to hold

10. a horse helmet, i'm guessing you mean the head bumper that goes on the horse? that's used for trailering, in case the horse raises it's head too high and bumps it on the ceiling of the trailer, the "helmet" protects the horse's head.

1) dressage girths are generally shorter than all purpose girths, because they are specifically made for dressage saddles. But if you have one that fits on your jumping saddle properly, then hey, go for it! If you are referring to jumping in a dressage saddle though, i wouldnt recommend that, the deeper seat will not allow yo a proper two point position

2) i buy the cheapest tack cleaner at the tack shop or online and it works fine, they all basically have the same ingredients. As long as you put the time and effort in to get all the dirt off your tack and clean everywhere you possibly can, it will look great.

3) i have a grey horse, and i love black tack because it makes him look very sharp. I dont really like bright colors however.

4) ankle boots protect the hind ankles of an event horse from rubbing together or getting cut. They are an alternative to regular hind boots, just with less coverage. They are very popular in the jumping world, very stylish. Bell boots wrap around the horse's front hooves. They are only for horses that tend to overreach their hind legs when trotting, they are to prevent a horse from pulling a front shoe by stepping on it with a hind hoof. Hoof boots are for horses that dont have shoes on, to protect them from a rocky terrain, kind of like sneakers. Leg wraps are used to prevent inflammation, they are most likely used on top performance horses that work very hard. For example, a horse would be leg wrapped after completing a round of cross country. They arent worn when ridden, just overnight in a stall. The only hock wraps ive heard of are the really expensive ones that are like ice packs. Again, anti inflammatory, and not used when ridden.

5) my horse really likes the dock of his tail, and his withers scratched.

6) a running martingale is usually used on jumpers, to prevent their head from raising too high up when they jump, it restricts the reins.

7) a standing martingale is like a running martigale, just used on the ground, and is attached to the bridle slightly different.

8) a plain nylon halter is not breakable, but you can specifically get one with the breakaway feature. I have one of these, because my horse stays outside overnight so his halter is exposed to alot of wear and damage, leather isnt as durable. I have a leather halter for shows though, to look professional.

9) a plain rope leadrope is the best, theyre cheap, and dont hurt your hands.

10) a horse helmet is put on a horse during travel in a trailer so that if he were to rear up, he wont hurt his head

Bell boots and leg wraps mainly are used if you going to be hard riding and prevent soreness and support on the legs

The horses I have love to be patted on the rear, their neck, and their cheeks

Horse helmets I highly suggest the horse may be the best horse in the world but will still spook or can be bit by an insect, the horse just might be sore or not want to be ridden and buck I have a friend who fell off jumpimg and was wearing a helmet and almost died and if she wasnt wearing a helmet would have been dead. Use a helmet horses are animals and can be unpredictable they can save your life if you wear one and if your around horses and riding alot eventually your going to fall off it's just going to happen sooner or later and you don't know when so just wear a helmet.

1. Can you jump with a dressage girth? Not in shows but in jumping lessons. If you're using a dressage saddle?.. which i dont recommend.

2. Best tack cleaner? (bridle, saddle, halter, girth) I use some spray stuff and a sponge.

3 Whats your horses color? Whats his/her saddle pad color? My Arabian is grey and my TB is Chestnut. Both of their pads are white, but their halter colors are pink for my Arab and turquoise for my TB

4. What do ankle boots, bell boots, hoof boots, leg wraps, and hock wraps do? Protect the horse from injuring themselves when overstepped or hitting things with their legs. Some boots give a bit of support as well

5. favorite places horses like to be scratched? Depends on the horse. My Arabian loves being scratched on my chest and under her mane. My TB is weird. She doesn't really like being touched, but if you can get to her girth/armpit without being bitten to death, she realizes she actually enjoys being scratched there.

6. Whats a running martingale? A type of martingale to keep the horses head in a position. It has two straps with rings that go on each rein. It keeps the horses head down by applying downward pressure on the bit when it puts its head up. http://www.google.com/imgres?um=1&hl=en&sa=N&rlz=1C1RNAN_enUS454US454&biw=1680&bih=935&tbm=isch&tbnid=X8Ktgqo1jOvVnM:&imgrefurl=http://www.elitesaddles.co.uk/Kieffer-Belinda-Running-Martingale1/details.html&docid=zhAwbBiaPq3ZSM&imgurl=http://www.elitesaddles.co.uk/saddles/269_Kieffer-Belinda-Running-Martingale1.jpg&w=400&h=400&ei=V0o3T6CYL8-ftwe7_LzKAg&zoom=1&iact=rc&dur=481&sig=104446744041136970791&page=1&tbnh=138&tbnw=138&start=0&ndsp=38&ved=1t:429,r:11,s:0&tx=45&ty=51

7. Whats a standing martingale? Again, a martingale to keep the horses head in position. It is one strap that attatches to the bottom of the noseband and pulls on their nose when they put their head up. A bit stronger than the running. http://www.google.com/imgres?um=1&hl=en&sa=N&rlz=1C1RNAN_enUS454US454&biw=1680&bih=935&tbm=isch&tbnid=X8Ktgqo1jOvVnM:&imgrefurl=http://www.elitesaddles.co.uk/Kieffer-Belinda-Running-Martingale1/details.html&docid=zhAwbBiaPq3ZSM&imgurl=http://www.elitesaddles.co.uk/saddles/269_Kieffer-Belinda-Running-Martingale1.jpg&w=400&h=400&ei=V0o3T6CYL8-ftwe7_LzKAg&zoom=1&iact=rc&dur=481&sig=104446744041136970791&page=1&tbnh=138&tbnw=138&start=0&ndsp=38&ved=1t:429,r:11,s:0&tx=45&ty=51

8. Whats better breakaway halter, leather, or nylon halters? Depends. Breakaway if you're going to turn the horse out with a halter, leather if you are trying to look nice, and nylon if you want lots of cute colors and a fairly cheap, durable halter.

9. Whats a better lead? Leather or Nylon? Nylon/cotton in my opinion.

10.What does a horse helmet do? Protects the horses head when its in a trailer so that if it freaks out and rears up and hits its head it doesnt do as much damage. Its really only for trailering.
