Equestrian display team for a large event?

I am staging a large regional event later this year and while I have several smaller displays ie falconry etc, I need to find a main ring attraction. I thought something equestrian, which is why I am posting it in this forum. Has anyone seen anything that has delighted and impressed them when they visited such an event?
Thank you in advance

It would be so useful if people asking this sort of question would say what country they are from. It sounds as though you are in the UK, so it would be pointless for me to suggest the Foxfield Drill Team, in Westlake Village, California. These are kids who do a musical ride over fences without saddles or bridles. If you are old enough, you may have seen them on TV, as they were a daily attraction at the 1984 Olympic Games, and were shown more widely in England than in the US. The kids range in age from about 6-18, and the team has been in existence for more than forty years, performing at places such as Madison Square Gardens, the Belmont (racing), and State Fairs all over the country.

As W.C.Fields used to say, paraphrasing, there's nothing like kids and animals for stealing a show.....I'd look for a group of talented kids with horses.

Are you looking to hire some people, or are you trying to come up with something riders at your stable could throw together? Will the audience be horse people, or just random people who might not know a thing about horses?

Drill teams are a good idea.. pretty cool, and entertaining. And you don't have to be a horse person to appreciate them. My college team performed our own drill routine that we made up at a parent's weekend. If you're just looking to hire people, well... who knows what sort of groups are in your area. There are people who do trick riding performances, you might be able to find people who will do a sort of demonstration (jumping, reining, jousting, i don't know... those are probably more entertaining for non horse people).

Perhaps post on craigslist or in local tack stores that you're looking to hire someone? Maybe see if there's some renaissance group who does medeival games on horseback that are willing to put on a show?

For an audience of mainly families and countrymen, I would definitely recommend either the BudWeiser Horses, or the Black Beauty show which was done at the Equitana in Louisville Kentucky. You possibly could get the number from the Louisville Chamber of commerce. It sounds great!

I am sure, if you ask around (or post around), somewhere near you there is probably a drill team that would come to your event. For a drill team, horses & riders perform choregraphed moves to music. It's quite fun. Where I live, we even have a miniature horse driving drill team, in addition to a mounted horse & rider drill (several of them).

Look around your area, for tack stores and equestrian papers- ask around or advertise, and I am sure you will find something.

Shire horse dressage. Amazing to see how graceful these horses are under saddle and performing complex moves. I saw two dressage displays at the National Shire Horse Show and thought it was truly beautiful. Let's celebrate the amazing diversity and ability of our native horse breeds.

'mini grand nationals' are good fun, with children on shetlands etc, also western barrel riding and pony club events are great too - check out some ideas from larger events like Horse of the Year Show/British Showm Jumping Event (in April)

there are so many drill teams out there,it depends on where you are going to have this event..one of the ones that made the most memorable images in my mind for drill teams was the"canadian clyde ride"but i am kind of partial to draft horses..they have been in a lot of parades and were rally good..

It depends on where you are based really.... We have a local jousting team based in Warwick who do excellent displays. They do travel too... This is a link to their website:

There are other teams based in the UK if you google jousting.... they are great for horsey and non-horsey people.

In the UK - try knights of middle england - great fun but prob expensive. In UK or USA try Parelli - they do great demos, but might not do a small event. worth a try.
