Where to rent a horse for a wedding proposal?
My friend is looking to propose to his girlfriend on horseback (she is obsessed with horses) but he doesn't know where to rent one. All we've been able to find is carriage rentals, but he is looking for one where he can ride the horse up to her on his own (without being led). I know California has some places that offer that, but he was looking for somewhere in Illinois, Wisconsin, Indiana or Texas.
He is also planning on taking riding lessons beforehand. His future fiance already knows how to ride well.
Anyone know of any places?
Thanks

Lessons come first. Surely his intended has given him at least a hint that riding does not mean simply getting on the horse? Perhaps he has been on a trail ride. That would assure him (incorrectly) that horses are uniformly docile and trustworthy.

The lesson barn just might have a horse he can rent or borrow. If the horse they offer him is the "wrong colour" or in some other way unsuitable to his tastes, he is far better off to hire the carriage and propose there. Carriage are excellent for proposals. I forget whether the lady who is now my wife proposed to me before or after she took me on a carriage ride where she drove her cart SUCCESSFULLY between two trees that were closer together than the axle ends.

Try googling trail riding places in your area. They do let you ride the horses, but there are guides that take you around. The length of a ride can range from an hour to a few days. He could surprise his girlfriend with a ride and propose on that. If he lets the people know when he books the ride, they might be able to arrange a stop during the ride that would be a good time for him to do it. Most rides are part of a group, but a more private ride might be able to be arranged.

Ask around at local barns to see if someone would offer their horse for rent. I would offer my horse in Indiana! It would be awesome to know my horse was used for a proposal!!
