Ok, I don't know much about either Pat and Linda or Monty, but i've heard about how debatable each method of training is. What are your opinions on each one?

With parelli, you'll probably never ride your horse. It's all about playing and understanding your horses 'energy' which is just dumb. If I tried to understand my colts energy, he'd probably chase me out of the arena. I've had 1 horse actually click to the parelli method and it can be convient if the horse is calm.
Monty roberts has worked with ALL of my horses, including my colt. When he was a stallion, we used the halter on him and it brought him right under control without hurting him like a stud chain. We even brought back a 2000 pound belgian with the halter! This horse went from spooking at his own shadow, he was horribley abused, to being ridden by children in about 6 months with the Monty Roberts method.
Also, be ready to spend hundreds of dollars on the equipment for Parelli, it's just not worth it. I'd so rather just bond with my horses and develop whatever method works on them.

I've seen quite a few Monty Roberts demo's and have used the basic techniques and found them good and easy to use. Thing to remember with Monty Roberts is that most of the techniques he uses have been around for a long time but he's the one who has made it a lot more widespread and well known. The basic techniques work.
As for Parelli, all I got to say is Linda hitting a partial sighted horse and go to YouTube and search for parelli and catwalk and watch the video and make your own mind up! I can't get the link to post

Erm I'd definately go for Monty- join up works for any horse. Literally ANY horse, I've never known it fail unless the person doing it did it wrong. If it didnt' work that would have to be one backwards horse! :L
Parelli on the other hand allegedly works well sometimes and gets these incredible results blah blah blah... but then there are the other times ¬¬ I mean the fact that in a live demonstration Parelli's own technique didn't work on a horse so he resorted to tying its head to its leg. Never seen that happen when doing join up..
As for what they're like as people, I don't like the sounds of any one of them tbh lol but at least Monty's method works (though what it actually achieves is debateable sometimes) and the best part- it's free! Whereas Parelli, if you bought all the bells and whistles, could end up costing thousands of pounds. I reckon if you're keeping it natural, you should keep the price natural too.

They are not different methods.
They are just different steps and details.
ALL of the "natural horsemanship" is the exact same thing.
Change of name = how they go about stuff....but the actual lessons are exactly the same.
So, it's just a matter of...
Do you want to waste a bunch of money on a Parelly halter or on a Monty Roberts halter?
Monty has a lot of gimmicks and he talks like an idiot....I hate how he talks during his demos. Sounds like he's talking to little kids. He's a dork. And he uses old methods that aren't always safe for just anyone to do.
Parelli costs a boat load of money and he has taken simple exercises and complicates them so he can make more money.
I don't like either.
I like all the steps to be plain, simple:

I would not touch either with a ten foot pole.
Monty Roberts feels the need to lie, and his methods are not original like he claims.
And Parelli... Well, for a while I didn't know much about Parelli, except that I had a farrier who liked him, used his methods, and did in fact train nice horses for other people. But now I know, oh do I know.
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=5gf7w_1ifus This is all that you really need to know.
A gumline, Pat? Really? That's oh soooo natural, don't you think?

monty roberts!
why? because he is not half as money orientated as parellii
join up works and you definitely bond with your horse,
parrelii literally gets horses to jump through hoops like circus animals and when will that really help you with your horse, and he has loads of over-priced merchandise that works the exact same as a good old halter or lead rope! but that's just my opinion
im sure there are people think otherwise
