Is the IRH helmet with the stripe suitable for all levels of hunter/jumper shows, or do you need the velvet ones for higher levels?

The trend these days is for the ATH(IRH brand of "stripe" helmet), Charles Owen GR8, or GPA type helmets. They are becoming much more popular than the velvet helmets, although you can't go wrong in the Hunters with a properly fitted, approved velvet helmet. I personally am going to get an ATH when I get a show helmet, and I plan to do the Hunters mostly.

A very nice velvet helmet works really well. If you don't want to pay for that, buy a plastic helmet and put a velvet cover on it. The IRH hemats are very nice too, and you can use them in alll levels, but you may want a velvet cover to have in case. in some shows you have to have a velvet helmet, but the cover will work.

The IRH is suitable for all levels of hunter/jumper. I had that helmet (For like 2 years) and I was pretty happy with it. I wish it would circulate the air more. I have a GPA now and I am very happy with this helmet : ) .

the hunter jumper shows require you to show in a approved helmet. most of the velvet helmets do not meet the standards. however there are a few ones that do, alot of people i know ride in the GPA or GPA look a likes known as the skunk helmet with the strip down the middle

I was recently at a small schooling show that was hunter jumper, and almost every rider at the show had a velvet helmet. Personnaly, a velvet helmet was ato expensive so i just bought a velvet helmet cover. I think that a velvet helmet looks much more professional.

I would get a velvet helmet cover-- When i went to the rolex I noticed a lot of the upper riders had sports helmets on with the stripes but that was for eventing/// so if you have one i'd definately use it and just cover it with the cover to make it look more classy for the hunter shows-- in hunter shows you wont ever see more than like 2 people without velvet ones.

i would say get a nonvelvet helmet, then buy a 5 dollar velveet helmet cover. you dont want to use an expensive velvet helmet for everyday use, so buying an everyday helmet that you can cover up and make it look the same as a velvet one!!! its a great way to save money

Hunter jumper low level it doesn't matter

I would just get a velvet helmet cover and continue using the one you have. Most of the velvet covered show hats are just that- hats, and they provide NO protection to the head whatever in case of a fall. There are a few manufacturers that make certified show helmets, but these tend to be expensive to buy. I would go ahead and use your current helmet, just cover it when you show at the upper levels of the sport. Hope that helps.

I'm a big fan of the Charles Owen GR8 helmet. Its low key, safe, and covered in micro suede. You can usually find them pretty cheap on ebay.

I have competed at the higher levels with the hat with the stripe. You should be fine with that one.
